Biography

Having represented England from schoolboy age group upwards, Colwill made his England senior debut in October 2023. Following his good start to the club season with Chelsea, when he was a regular in the side, he earned his first England cap in a friendly win over Australia at Wembley. He played the full game at left-back.

Previously, Colwill had made his England Under-21 debut in March 2022 in a win over Andorra.

In the summer of 2023, he was a mainstay of the Young Lions side that won the European Under-21 Championship for the first time in nearly 40 years. He played all but the last group game and in the final against Spain he put in an accomplished all-round display, including joining in with attacks. He headed against the post shortly before his team scored the only goal.

Colwill and the defence kept a clean sheet in every game.

Just prior to that tournament, he travelled with the senior England squad to a Euro 2024 qualifier.
